When The Moon Hits Your Eye . . .

For the last five years, my mom and I have had a girls weekend for her birthday. Shopping, movies and lots and lots of eating. It's the best.
Around Christmas this year, my boss took us all to Quartino for lunch and I fell in love with it. The food is incredible and the restaurant feels like one straight off the side streets of Italy.

Being happily filled (you know, content but not to the point where you feel like you'll explode) we spent hours on hours shopping. When the sun went down and our arms couldn't carry any more bags, we headed over to Eatly for Italian meal part two.

A wonderful day, full of wonderful food with my very favorite Partner in Crime.

Coq d'Or

Finally the dreaded day came when Allie had to leave. With big hugs we held back the tears as we said goodbye in favor of promises of adventure and plans to see each other in a few months (she has to come home in a few months for her visa - a hassle for her but really exciting for me!).
I ran off to a fancy work event until late at night then headed over to Union Station to start a new adventure with my favorite partner in crime.
She spent the next day wandering while I had an extremely stressful day at work. After skulking out of the office in a foul mood, there was only one real place to go - a bar with good, strong drinks.

This was my first time in the Drake Hotel and I wish I could say I didn't wander around with my chin on my chest but in my always elegant fashion, I did.

Coq d'Or  opened in the '30s after the repeal of prohibition and makes you feel like you've been transported back in time. The drinks are good and it's a great place to people watch.

There's nothing some girl talk and a strong whiskey can't fix.

Not-So-Sick Day

To take full advantage of my big-haired bff's visit, I played hooky from work for a day of dancing and eating. Mostly eating.
We started off the morning with an amazing zumba class at Flow. It was us with a bunch of older women shaking it to Pit Bull, Tina Turner and Maroon 5. It was the best workout I've had in a long time.

We left zumba with big smiles and empty stomachs so made the hike over to Elly's for a good brunch.

Being my fellow Hobbit, it only took about an hour after brunch before we were hungry again so we headed over to Eataly for a few treats (this being extra fun since we met in Italy).

This face says it all.

We topped this off with the best cup of hot chocolate I have ever had.

After a few hours of wandering and window shopping we ended our day at my favorite bar - Watershed. A basement bar downtown with a good collection of whiskey and a speakeasy feel.

There's nothing I love more than showing one of my favorite people all my favorite places around town.
